Bahuguna wins trust vote amid BJP walkout

The Vijay Bahuguna government on Thursday comfortably won a trust vote in the Uttarakhand Assembly with 39 MLAs voting in its favour amid a noisy walkout by opposition BJP members.

In the 71-member Assembly,31 Congress legislators and eight non-BJP members supported the trust motion,Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal told the House. Raising slogans,31 members of the BJP marched out of Assembly demanding that secret ballot should have been used.

“This is totally unconstitutional that the government did not accept our demand for secret ballot,” said Ajay Bhatt,a senior BJP MLA.

In the House,Bahuguna tabled the one-line motion,saying he wanted to prove his majority in view of the opposition demand. “… in line of the healthy tradition of the democracy,I want to table a trust motion on the floor of the House,” he said urging the Speaker to order a division of votes.
