Badals’ Sangat Darshan a waste of funds: Sonia

Sonia hit out at the Badal government for the over Rs 65,000 crore debt and said it was borrowing money to even pay salaries of its staff.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday targeted the Badals’ Sangat Darshan programmes to launch an attack on ruling SAD-BJP combine in the state that goes to polls on January 30.

In a speech at Gurdaspur on Tuesday,Sonia blamed the ruling coalition for “wasting thousands of crores sent by the UPA-led Central government” in Sangat Darshan programmes that she said were primarily aimed at “furthering the interests of the ruling alliance and its supporters”.

Listing a number of Union government schemes such as MNREGA,JNNURM etc,Sonia said that the UPA government,led by “Majhe ki dharti ke sapoot (able son of Majha)” PM Manmohan Singh,has given thousands of crores of rupees to Punjab,but the state has failed to utilise it to benefit the aam aadmi.

She said if voted to power,her party will give Rs 25,000 relief each to farmers having land in border areas and those facing problems in tilling their farms due to security reasons.
