This year, viewers can expect an impressive lineup of sequels and remakes
Sequels have become the order of the day for the Hindi film industry, what with the Munna Bhai and Golmaal franchise striking gold at the box office. Though sceptics might think that sequels are an easy way out for filmmakers who are running short of original ideas, directors believe that its a good way to draw audiences to theatres. Firstly because viewers are already familiar with the brand and secondly they are curious to see whats in store in the forthcoming instalments. Last year,Murder 2 and Don 2 did reasonably well.
In 2012 too,movie buffs can enjoy Dabangg 2,Raaz 3,Race 2,Jannat 2 and Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2.
After Wanted,Bodyguard,Ready and Singham (all remakes of South Indian films) became blockbusters, this year filmmakers are remaking earlier hit Hindi movies. While producer Karan Johar is paying an ode to his father Yash Johar,by remaking his 1990 classic Agneepath, comedy king David Dhawan is helming the 1980 Sai Paranjpye film Chashme Buddoor. When the first look of Agneepath was unveiled few months back,first-time director Karan Malhotra admitted that though he was taking on a huge challenge by remaking Agneepath,he has treated the film differently. Though the 1990 film showcased Amitabh Bachchan battling Danny Denzongpa, the new version has Hrithik Roshan,a younger Vijay Dinanath Chauhan, taking on the formidable Kancha Cheena (Sanjay Dutt). Whether this David versus Goliath approach will work for the times, remains to be seen.
Whats hot: The film reprises Akshay,Riteish Deshmukh and Boman,it also has Amitabh Bachchan (in a cameo),Mithun Chakraborty,John Abraham,Jacqueline Fernandez,Randhir Kapoor,Rishi Kapoor,Zarine Khan,Shazahn Padamsee, and Shreyas Talpade. The film has a different plot vis-a-vis the earlier film and promises to deliver extra action, fun and comedy.
