Assam human rights panel chief stops using red beacon

Assam Human Rights Commission,announced his decision not to use red light on his official vehicle.

A day after the Supreme Court ordered restrictions on the use of red beacons on cars,Justice (Retd) Aftab Hussain Saikia,chairman of the Assam Human Rights Commission,announced his decision not to use red light on his official vehicle despite his position being equivalent to that of a high court chief justice.

Justice (Retd) Saikia,in an official press note issued by the AHRC,said that he took the decision in view of the apex court’s judgment. Meanwhile,the Assam government has announced permitting the chief executive member and executive members of the Autonomous Councils of Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong districts to use red light on their vehicles.
