Ansari,Jadhav saw victim,friend first,kept watch till others arrived

Police said Ansari had admitted that he was the first to spot the victim and called the others to help him

Salim Ansari,27,and Vijay Jadhav,18,have allegedly told Mumbai Police Crime Branch that they kept a watch on the photojournalist and followed her and her male colleague for close to 15 minutes. They did this to ensure the two did not leave the Shakti Mills compound till their three associates arrived,Ansari allegedly told the cops.

Police said Ansari had admitted that he was the first to spot the victim and called the others to help him overpower the two because he wanted to rape the woman.

“Ladki ko dekh ke neeyat fisal gayi (bad thoughts crossed my mind on seeing the girl),” Ansari,father of two,allegedly told the cops.

The confessions of the five have details of their visits to brothels at Nagpada and Manpada as well as porn video parlours. Police said the five knew each other,visited local bars and smaller theatres around south Mumbai. “They are all school dropouts and jobless. They committed thefts and did odd jobs,” said Satypal Singh,Commissioner of Police.

“They always calculated the money they needed for their nightouts…. They would attempt petty thefts depending on how much cash they needed,” said an officer.
