A week after the killing of five Armymen in an ambush nearly 500 meters inside the Indian territory in Chakkan Da Bagh area of Poonch sector,Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT) made an unsuccessful attempt to attack a forward post manned by BSF along the LoC in Krishna Ghati sector on Tuesday night.

Official sources told The Indian Express that taking advantage of poor visibility caused by bad weather conditions and thick grass, over half a dozen people wearing Army uniforms and in plain clothes crossed over to this side of the LoC and started proceeding towards a forward post manned by 135 Bn of BSF. However, alert troops noticed infiltration with the help of surveillance devices and opened fire, causing them to retreat. An official spokesman confirmed this.

Meanwhile, incidents of violation of the ceasefire continued along the LoC in J&K,with Pakistani troops Wednesday resorting to unprovoked heavy firing on Indian positions in Hamirpur in Poonch.

Sources said that the firing, which included mortar fire, started at around 5.15 am and was in progress when last reports came in.

On Tuesday night as well,Pakistani troops had resorted to unprovoked firing on the Indian side in the Hamirpur and Mankote areas of Mendhar. Official sources said that the Indian Army also retaliated, and that there was no injury or damage on the Indian side. Tuesday night’s incident of ceasefire violation was the ninth in the last four days, sources said.
