Another DMK ex-minister booked,houses searched

The Tamil Nadu Vigilance have booked DMK leader and former minister Thangam Thennarasu for alleged corruption — the 11th member of the previous Cabinet to be slapped with charges of corruption or abuse of power by the AIADMK government.

Thennarasu was booked on Tuesday and a day later,sleuths from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption searched his houses in Virudhunagar,his hometown,and Chennai as well as his and his relatives’ properties in Madurai and Dindigul.

Thennarasu,Vigilance officials alleged,acquired illegal properties during his tenure as school education minister in the previous regime.

He “accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income to the tune of Rs 82,97,535 in his name and in that of his family members during the check period 15-5-2006 to 31-3-2010”,the officials said.
