Team Anna member Kiran Bedi said on Thursday that Anna Hazare would not campaign in the five poll-bound states due to ill-health.

“The doctors have advised him complete rest for a month. He will not go anywhere or campaign till he recovers fully. His health is very important for us,” said Bedi, who visited Hazare in hospital today. She said the doctors have advised him not to travel or fast for at least a month.

Bedi said the core committee meeting, which was originally scheduled for January 2 and 3 in Ralegan Siddhi but was put off due to Hazare’s health, would now be held in Delhi on January 7. “Anna has given me the message which I will convey to the core committee at the meeting,” said Bedi.

Hazare was admitted to Sancheti Hospital in Pune on December 31 for treatment of chest infection and bronchitis. Doctors said he was responding well to treatment and was likely to be discharged on January 8.

“To recover from his illness,he will have to take complete rest. Campaigning will require him to travel, speak a lot and will expose him to sudden temperature changes which are bound to have an adverse impact on his health. I have advised him to strictly avoid any physical or mental stress,” said Dr K H Sancheti, founder of the hospital.
