The Congress has decided not to field Union Ministers Ambika Soni and Ashwini Kumar in the coming Lok Sabha elections. The party decided not to give tickets to Rajya Sabha members at the Punjab screening committee meeting on Friday.
The High Command had earlier asked Soni and Kumar not to contest because the party did not want any reduction in its already depleted strength in the Rajya Sabha. Soni, whose Rajya Sabha term lapses in July next year, was considered a winning candidate from Anandpur Sahib Lok Sabha seat. Ashwini Kumar, whose term in the Upper House lapses in March 2009,was being considered for Gurdaspur seat.
