The post-mortem report has shown that the six-year-old girl,whose death led to protests in Aligarh on Thursday,was strangled to death after sexual assault.
The investigation of the case has been transferred to the Crime Branch of the Aligarh police and a reward of Rs 25,000 announced for information about the perpetrator of the crime. The district administration provided ex gratia of Rs 20,000 to the family of the girl who announced that they would stage a protest if the accused was not arrested within 24 hours.
The girl went missing from her house on Wednesday evening in Banna Devi area. The girls family searched for her and on Thursday morning found her body about 200 metre from their house.
Residents carried the body to the Nagla Kala area and blocked the road. They alleged that the police were informed early in the morning about the disappearance,but the cops did not act. Hearing about the blockade the police rushed to the site,but residents started pelting stones at the police personnel. Circle Officer A K Singh also reached the spot. The video footage showed the CO knocking down a woman while two constables were seen beating women and children. Later,the CO and two police constables were placed under suspension.
