The Union Home Ministry on Thursday extended singer Adnan Samis visa for a period of three months.
The 44-year-old playback singer of Pakistani origin had been living in the country in spite of his visa expiring on October 6. Mumbai Police had issued him a show cause notice on October 15,giving him a week to explain his overstay. The police had also told him to pay a fine to regularise the period of his overstay.
We received a fax from Sami today that his visa had been extended. Earlier,we had served him the notice expecting that he would not be granted an extension. Now that the home ministry has granted it,our notice is null and void and he is not liable to pay a fine, said Sanjay Shintre,Deputy Commissioner of Police,Special Branch.
Sami has been embroiled in a court case with his wife Sabah Galadari over the possession of a duplex flat.
