Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan has indicated his willingness to roll back the decision on the Adarsh Commission report to pave the way for investigation against politicians and bureaucrats who have been found guilty in the Colaba housing project.
I agree with AICC V-P Rahul Gandhi that Adarsh report should be probed. Will re-open the issue in Cabinet, Chavan said.
But a senior Cabinet minister said,State Cabinet can only roll back and accept the report. The ball is in Centres court. They will have to act.
enior ministers in Congress argued,The action against Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde comes under the purview of high command Sonia Gandhi. The decision to allow Ashok Chavan to contest the Assembly elections also comes in AICCs purview. A senior AICC functionary revealed: The charges of political patronage against NCP ministers for water resources Sunil Tatkare and minister for higher and technical education Rajesh Tope will have to be taken by Sharad Pawar. The Congress cannot suo moto drop the ministers.
However, the NCP has rejected the charge arguing that the final authority is Cabinet minister for urban development which was held by successive CMs. The MoS is not authorised to take a decision they argued.
Former Chief Minister Shivajirao Nilengekar Patil is no longer a pro-active player and Vilasrao Deshmukh is no more. However,on decisions related to the bureaucracy, the government will have to be guided by the investigations of the CBI to establish their role in benami property and giving permissions as quid pro quo. However, even on violation of service rules, the government will have to look to the Centre.
