In an operation that continued for over seven hours, the Haryana Police on Tuesday evacuated 7,000 followers of Rampal-led Satlok Ashram at Rohtak’s Karontha village. As many as 62 Haryana Roadways buses and 138 four-wheelers were used to transport the followers to Satlok Ashram at Barwala in Hisar district.

However, around 800 to 1,000 followers have refused to vacate the ashram till the police withdrew murder charges levelled against Rampal. The followers have been given a deadline till Wednesday morning to vacate the ashram on their own.

Meanwhile, the evacuation of 7,000 followers was no assurance of peace returning to the area as the followers of Arya Samaj continued to block the National Highway 71,protested against the ashram’s chief and demanded its complete closure. They also damaged three Haryana Roadways buses in the morning.

Rohtak District Magistrate Vikas Gupta had ordered that the ashram be vacated on Tuesday since people had assembled inside in violation of Section 144 of CrPC.
