Lightning struck and killed at least 21 people and heavy unseasonal rain damaged acres of standing crops,particularly paddy and mango,over the past two days across Andhra Pradesh.

Seven persons were struck dead in Guntur,four in Nellore and two in Prakasam. Such deaths were also reported from Warangal,Krishna,Khammam,Vizag,Adilabad,East Godavari,Mahbubnagar districts. Four persons died and 12 were injured in rain-related accidents,the State Disaster Management Authority said.

High-speed winds blew away power and telephone poles in several areas.

The weatherman has predicted more rain and thunder showers over the next three days.
