2 held for rape of mentally challenged minors

Two people were arrested on the charges of sexually exploiting nearly half-a-dozen mentally challenged minor girls at a home for mentally challenged children. Police on Thursday booked S C Sharma and Angad Kumar,the director and the watchman of the Home respectively,for rape.

Their arrest followed findings of a panel set up by Jammu Deputy Commissioner A K Sahddu to look into a complaint of sexual exploitation of girls in Rotary Innerwheel Home for Mentally Retarded children at Channi Rama.

Headed by the Additional Deputy Commissioner,Jammu,the panel included a police officer,a psychiatrist and activists. The complaint was filed with DIG Jammu-Kathua range and the Deputy Commissioner,by activist Deepika Singh Rajawal.

The Home has 45 children,including 15 girls,police said,adding medical examination confirmed five of them were raped. The victims are in the age group of 14-16 years.
