Zaheer Khan and Robin Uthappa have returned home. With Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore agreeing to the much-anticipated swap,the two internationals will be playing the second edition of the Indian Premier League for the city they reside and represent in other domestic competitions.
Both Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers representatives confirmed the news on Wednesday. Considering the failure of their big stars in the first edition,
RCB wanted fresh blood in the batting line-up. With Uthappa leading Karnataka in Ranji Trophy this season,the local boy he was on their radar since the transfer window opened. Mumbai Indians too were keen on a pacer after Shaun Pollock’s pulled out of the second edition and Ashish Nehra moved to Delhi Daredevils. Zaheer fitted the bill perfectly.
Looking at the financial aspect of the transfer,Bangalore purchased Zaheer for $450,000 while Mumbai paid $850,000 for Uthappa. This swap means RCBs expenditure increased while Mumbai now have extra cash in hand for the next months auction.
