If anyone expected a frail figure hiding from the shutterbugs to emerge from the arrival terminal, they were in for a surprise. Returning home on Monday,Yuvraj Singh appeared at ease despite three months of intense treatment and chemotherapy sessions at Boston in the United States,as he battled cancer. And though he refused to talk to the media, saying he would interact with them on Wednesday,Yuvraj termed it a ‘special welcome’ from the fans.

Welcomed at the Delhi airport in the morning by his mother and a horde of well-wishers,Yuvraj then left for his residence in DLF Phase I around 11 am and was met by a large number of fans and neighbours. As soon as he arrived,Yuvraj was encircled by kids from his neighbourhood and presented with flowers.

“This is a moment of pride for him,his family and the entire country and his fans. His determination has helped him defeat such a tough disease. We hope he gets back to the field soon and starts playing for his country,” said one of the fans.

He then thanked his fans from the terrace of his residence. “I am feeling well at the moment. I am also recovering well. And I am very happy to be back in my home,” said Yuvraj. Having shaved off his hair for the chemotherapy,Yuvraj was dressed in a red t-shirt and matching cap.

He also said it was refreshing to indulge in home-cooked food after so long. Mother Shabnam too was all smiles, admitting the past few months had been tough. She added that her son had come out a winner and it feels like winning the World Cup all over again.

Board of control for cricket in India (BCCI) vice president Rajeev Shukla was the first person from the board to meet Yuvraj on his return. “I am surprised and very happy that despite struggling with such a deadly disease,he has recovered so quickly. He is looking much better and improving quite rapidly. He is quite keen for come back in the field. I have visited him to inquire about his health status,” said Shukla.

Welcome back,brother

Welcoming Yuvraj back,Sachin Tendulkar wished him a speedy recovery. “Yuvi — Got well soon. Welcome back home my brother after winning a tough battle with cancer,” Tendulkar wrote on his Twitter page. Tendulkar had met Yuvraj in London last month, where he was recuperating for a few days after his treatment.
