Days before a crucial vote on a US-backed resolution at the UNHRC against Sri Lankas alleged human rights violations in the last phase of the civil war,British TV station Channel 4 has said that it has footage of bodies of Tamil Tiger leader Velupillai Prabhakaran and his 12-year-old son with injuries that strongly indicate that they were executed by the Lankan army.
The pictures are part of a documentary Sri Lankas Killing Fields: War Crimes Unpunished. An earlier documentary had several trophy visuals of executions.
The documentary,to be aired in the UK a country with a sizeable Sri Lankan Tamil population on Wednesday, has pictures of a young boy, identified as Balachandran Prabhakaran, the 12-year-old younger son of Prabhakaran, with five bullet wounds to his torso, injuries that experts claim were inflicted during execution.
Dundee University forensic pathologist Derrick Pounder, who studied the pictures, has said the muzzle is likely to have been two to three feet or less from the boys chest. Its likely that the shooter was standing over him while he was lying flat on the ground after the first shot. So this is murder. Theres no doubt about it, he said.
