The dismissals of Yuvraj Singh and Yusuf Pathan in successive overs proved costly, but a better show by the medium pacers could still have tilted the balance in India’s favour, according to skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

“Yusuf got out to an inside edge, that was crucial because we banked on those kind of batsmen. When Yuvi and myself were batting,we wanted to play the middle overs. We had a decent start and we had big hitters down the order,” said Dhoni after the match. “Those 2-3 wickets we lost in the middle cost us dearly,” he said.

“Then,if we had bowled a little better with the new ball, maybe things could have been different.”

New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori, meanwhile, praised his bowlers who,for the second match in a row, kept India’s star-studded batting lineup in check.
