Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar came under fire from skipper Shoaib Malik after their 129-run defeat to Sri Lanka in the second ODI.

Akhtar went for 45 runs in his six overs and had a miserable outing since his return to the national team after being out for nearly 14 months.

Malik minced no words while stating that he was not satisfied with the pacer’s recent show and would be looking towards replacements.

“I will talk to the team management and the national selectors and will try to convince them that we need to give a chance to younger bowlers who are performing well in domestic cricket. You need a bowler who can bowl 10 overs and also keep on showing commitment for 50 overs on the field and I don’t think that was possible today with Shoaib,” Malik said after the match.

“It is about time we look and plan ahead because there is no dearth of new talent in our country,” he said, adding,“He has done well in domestic matches and deserved a chance. But there is a question mark over his fitness and we need to look at younger players.”

Malik fined

Meanwhile,Malik was fined 20 per cent of the match fee while the Pakistan team was docked 10 per cent for slow over rate.
