Upset after Thursday’s spat between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir was linked to the infamous ‘Slapgate’ incident that occurred in the first IPL,India paceman S Sreesanth claimed that the entire incident was planned and called Harbhajan Singh a “backstabbing person.”

Using Twitter as the platform to vent frustration,Sreesanth went on to make several revelations on the 2008 incident, thus creating a fresh controversy.

“I want u All to know the truth. He (Bhajji) never Slapped me. the video will show u all wt he did,” Sreesanth tweeted using his handle ‘sreesanth36’,which is a verified account. “Every one blaming me Nd always writing and talking about slap gate?? it really s**#s. the truth is in the video ..which is with ipl.. I want the world to c it..Whn I went to shake hands after the match..he had lost it..he had already planned to hit me (elbow me) all his anger,” he wrote.

Justifies long silence

Sreesanth also justified his silence on the matter for five years, saying he was scared about his international career. “i was scared of loosing my place. I had no support wtsoevrr. The real video is not with me..it’s been with ipl. for ages now..sorry. The real incident video..which is been kept hiding..c mon let the world see it..I wanna tell u all ..I’m really sorry to have kept quite,” he said.

Sreesanth added he was ‘not at fault’ when Harbhajan slapped him during a match between Mumbai Indians and King’s XI Punjab on April 25,2008.

“All blamed me for getting emotional ..??c mon who doesn’t get emotional whn u know the person who u worship is a backstabbing person…Disgusting..that’s all I can say…wht he did is completely out of control,” he added.

Later in the day, former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi took to the same platform to say the video, which has not been released till now,was not made public on the advice of IPL governing council member Arun Jaitley. “The idea of not releasing the vid in public was Arun Jaitley’s at that time. We accepted wht he said…I have the only copy of slap gate video. Will examine whether to release or not in the next few weeks,” he said.

Justice (retd) Sudhir Nanavati, who headed the Slapgate inquiry, contradicted Sreesanth’s claim. Nanavati said there was no provocation from Sreesanth’s part and Harbhajan tried to slap him for the second time but was restrained by security guards. “In the video footage,I have seen Harbhajan slap his face. It was clear cut,it was in the video footage,” said Nanavati.
