RCA office locked in power struggle

Even as Sanjay Dixit maintains that the Annual General Meeting last Sunday where he was removed as Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) president was unconstitutional, former RCA secretary Subhash Joshi-backed faction went a step further by staking claim as the states representative to the upcoming BCCI AGM in Mumbai, slated for September 24.

The in-fighting within the RCA took a seemingly absurd course on Tuesday with both factions fastening separate locks on the main RCA office complex in Jaipurs Sawai Man Singh Stadium. According to sources, anticipating trouble after Joshi announced that they would enter the RCA office to take charge,Dixit informed the police and locked the complex. The Joshi faction staged a brief dharna outside and put their own lock on the office, claiming Dixit had no right to enter the building as he had been removed.

Incidentally,it was the Joshi/Dixit combination that on March 1 this year led to Lalit Modis ouster from the RCA. Of the 33 member RCA executive,Dixit and Joshi together managed 21 seats, while Modis faction managed 11. However,Joshi and his new supporters now assert that Dixit was as authoritative as Modi and not contributing to cricket in Rajasthan, adding that Dixit was corrupt and using the office of president to further his own means.

Meanwhile, former deputy president Bimal Soni on Tuesday stated that they had filed an FIR against Dixit along with a complaint to the Jaipur district collector.

When we arrived on Tuesday, armed men were roaming inside the RCA office. We locked them inside and called the police, Soni said. He added that of the 33 members of the RCA executive,21 were in favour of removing Dixit as president.
