The Punjab Police on Wednesday arrested Olympian Vijender Singh’s sparring partner Ram Singh in the Rs 484-crore drug haul case being investigated by the Fatehgarh Sahib police.

Police said Ram Singh’s name has been added in the same FIR that was registered on March 3 against international smugglers Anoop Singh Kahlon and others.

He is the 16th accused who has been arrested in this case.

After Vijender’s car being used by Ram Singh was recovered from outside Kahlon’s house,Ram Singh was questioned for several days by police during which he admitted to have procured heroin from Kahlon and tried it for fun with Vijender.

He was summoned to join investigation in this case again after the name of Ravi Deol surfaced in this case and recovery of drugs (5 kg ice and 90 kg pseudophedrine) was made from Deol’s parental house in Sangrur.

Deol is Ram Singh’s brother-in-law and after questioning Ram Singh it had come to the notice of police that he was continuously in touch with Deol. Deol is a proclaimed offender of the Sangrur police in a case of assault on a government servant as also an alleged drug dealer. “During the questioning it emerged that Ram Singh has deeper connection with the smugglers and necessitated his custodial interrogation,” police said.
