Pub brawl: BCCI chief Srinivasan’s son Ahwin gets bail

The Bandra police on Thursday said they had sought the CCTV footage of restaurant-pub Escobar in Bandra after BCCI president N Srinivasan’s son Ashwin (40) was arrested on Monday night for allegedly getting into a brawl with its staff and punching a police constable.

The Bandra police on Thursday said they had sought the CCTV footage of restaurant-pub Escobar in Bandra after BCCI president N Srinivasan’s son Ashwin (40) was arrested on Monday night for allegedly getting into a brawl with its staff and punching a police constable.

Ashwin was released on a bail of Rs 15,000 on Tuesday.

Police officers probing the case said the CCTV footage will be seen to ascertain who started the brawl. Statements of waiters and the manager of the establishment will also be recorded,said the police. “We will record the statements of the waiters and manager who were present in the bar and saw Ashwin beat the constable,” said Pratab Dhighavkar,DCP (Zone 9).

According to the police,on Monday night,Ashwin and his friend Avi Krishnamurthy (35) wanted drinks served beyond the 1.30 am deadline. When the waiters refused,he and his friend allegedly picked up a fight with them and refused to pay a bill of Rs 30,000. The manager then informed the police.

Ashwin,whose father also runs a flourishing cement business,allegedly began dropping names and threatened the police officers. When the duo refused to calm down,the police tried to restrain them. Ashwin then allegedly punched a constable from Bandra police station,who was trying to hold him.

The two were arrested and taken to Bandra police station,where they had to spend the night in the lock-up. They were produced at the Bandra metropolitan magistrate court on Tuesday.
