* Reports in the European media suggest that the Chelsea coach’s teenage son may have signed for London club Fulham. Spanish newspaper Marca claims the 14-year-old goalkeeper José Mario will sign for Fulham having earlier undergone a one-month trial. The youngster had earlier played for Real Madrid’s Canillas side when Mourinho managed the Spanish side but has not followed his father’s footsteps to Chelsea. Fulham was not available for comment.
Third nationals for Gomes
* Second seed Mary Ann Gomes pipped Tania Sachdev and Soumya Swaminathan with a better tie-breaking score to clinch a hat-trick of titles in the 40th Women’s National Premier Championship in Kolkata. Overnight leader Soumya lost to Padmini Rout in the final round to slip to third,while top seed Tania Sachdev who had suffered early losses finished second with six points from last seven rounds.
India in SAFF semis
* Defending champions India dished out yet another lacklustre performance to go down 1-2 against hosts Nepal but still managed to make the semifinals of the SAFF Football Championships. The six-time champions were ucky to make it to the last four stage after Pakistan beat Bangladesh 2-1. For Nepal,Anil Gurung and Jumanu Rai scored in the 70th and 81st minutes while Syed Rahim Nabi pulled one back for India in the stoppage time (92nd minute. India and Pakistan ended on four points behind Group A toppers Nepal (7 pts) but Wim Koevermans’ men qualified for the semifinals having beaten Pakistan in the group stage.
