Fast bowler Doug Bollinger today said that Chennai Super Kings has the right combination of both pace and spin to defend its Indian Premier League title.
“Albie Morkel has done a really good job (as a pacer). Our spinners Jackie (Shadab Jakati) and R Ashwin have been fantastic. So I don’t think we feel that much pressure. We won two back-to-back IPL editions. I think we are pretty relaxed going into the fifth season and have plenty of options. We have good spinners in our ranks,” Bollinger told reporters here.
“We are having a great time. The guys have been playing cricket for six-seven months now. So we all know what to do. We just want to win on Wednesday (against Mumbai Indians in the opener),” the left-arm Australian pacer said.
Bollinger said it’s great to have fellow fast bowler and countrymate Ben Hilfenhaus in the side.
“He is bowling really well for Australia. Good luck to him. It is great to have a bowler like him in your team. He was little bit injured last year. He has come back and bowled really well. He is swinging the ball well. It would be good to see how he goes,” he said.
Asked about how he intends to cope up with the slow nature of the Chepauk strip,Bollinger replied,”You just got to accommodate yourself to that. The way the wicket now looks it is very good for fast bowlers. A little bit of grass and hopefully that grass will help the ball to come through quick.”
“It’s just a change we have to go through. We are all good bowlers and know what to do. Hopefully,it swings for me and spins for Ashwin,” he said.
Bollinger, who suffered hamstring injury in a freak accident while at home playing with his daughter, said he has recovered fully and looking forward to new IPL season.
“I feel really good. Good to be here in Chennai. I am feeling really good and looking forward to six weeks of IPL cricket.”
The Australian rated Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore as the toughest sides in the IPL but hastened to add that any team can come from behind.
“Mumbai and Bangalore are always pretty strong. But you never know in this competition some of the teams can come from behind. Kolkata has got a great team. Just one of those things where one game can turn the whole competition,” he said.
Asked about his thoughts on the IPL and playing for Australia,he said,”Chennai have the faith in letting me play for them and given me so much opportunity. My heart is still with Australia but I love playing for Chennai as well.”
