Cricket Australia (CA) has appointed former St Kilda football club strength and conditioning coach Andrew Weller as the new physical performance manager of the national team.

Weller, who has spent the past four years with the Suns after a long stint with AFL rivals the Saints, will work with all male and females teams across the country and will be CA’s key link person between national and state fitness programs.

“Over the last decade,I’ve worked in AFL and,I’m sure,I can bring innovations from that sport to cricket as we continue to develop the high performance culture around the Australian cricket teams,” quoted Weller,as saying.

CA executive team performance general manager Pat Howard said the hunt for a physical performance coach who will report directly to Weller is ongoing.

The role, which will involve preparing the Australian team for the home summer and subsequent overseas tours,is expected to be filled within the next fortnight.
