A day after they had hailed Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra’s Modi’s elevation as chairman of BJP’s election campaign committee,Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal refused to comment on the resignation of senior BJP leader L K Advani from key positions in the party.

Sukhbir called Advani’s resignation an internal matter of the party and said they are with the BJP and would stand by whatever the party decides. His father, who had described Modi’s elevation as a “masterstroke”, did comment on Advani either. The senior Badal has had a long association with Advani.

Badal called up Rajnath Singh and congratulated him. “Modi’s proven hold over the popular imagination combined with the sober and experienced leadership of Rajnath Singh would prove a deadly combination, too hot for the Congress to handle,” he said in a statement.
