Speaking at the FICCI women’s meet in New Delhi,Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Monday slammed the rampant female infanticide present in the country.
”There are times when I looked around at our society and thought we have regressed back to the 18th century… In fact,18th century was better, Modi said, adding,”In 21st century, girls are killed while still in their mothers’ wombs.
”I blame both men and women for the atrocities being committed against women. ‘We have to break free from this attitude,” said the chief minister.
”Female infanticide happens in Gujarat too. We have to fight this,” said Modi.
”In many states, boys are finding no girls to marry as there is an imbalance in our society. We can’t differentiate between daughters and sons,” he added.
”If we have to create a modern India,we have to take pride in our women and their powers,” said Modi.
”In our society, mother is most important and is above all. We regard her as sacred. Where there is purity we see mother,” he said.
Modi started his speech by saying ”many women connected with me,questioned me and gave suggestions on Facebook before this programme”.
”I am grateful to the social media… People are welcome to give more suggestions and I will personally look into these,” he said.
Connecting the dots,Modi said before we can change society we need to empower women and only then they can move towards being entrepreneurs.
”We,particularly men, underestimate the power of women. Now,women are two steps ahead of men. We need to recognise the power of women,” said Modi.
