1 arrested, police look for 3 others; Velocity owner says it was a drunken brawl.

A 26-year-old woman, who works at a five-star hotel in the city, was allegedly molested and her male friend brutally assaulted by four men when he protested and tried to intervene. Police said the incident took place on Sunday night at Velocity,an upmarket pub in Greater Kailash-I.

Police said they have arrested Sanjeev and are on the lookout for three others — Deep,a bouncer at the pub,Sonu and Amit.

A case of molestation, voluntary causing hurt and wrongful restraint has been registered against the four men. “We are questioning one of them and have sent out teams to nab the bouncer and the other accused. An investigation is underway,” a senior police officer said.

The victim’s friend, who is also a complainant in the case, told Newsline that they were sitting at a table when one of the men began misbehaving.

“Four persons were sitting at another table and constantly staring at my friend. This made her feel uncomfortable. One of them then got up and brushed against her. We ignored it the first time. When it happened thrice,I asked them to behave. They began arguing and pushed me,” the friend said.

He alleged that one of them groped the woman. This made him furious and there was a scuffle. The four men left the bar. They returned a few minutes later, bringing more men with them.

“Before I could realise what was happening, they pulled me out of my chair and punched me in the face. All of them surrounded me and began kicking and punching me. I shouted for help but no one came to my rescue. The pub bouncer too was involved,” the friend alleged.

He said at least seven men kicked him repeatedly. He managed to head to the terrace of the building. “The men had blocked the exit but I somehow managed to run to the terrace. I took out my phone to make a call to the police control room. The seven men followed me to the terrace and encircled me again. I am happy I was able to make a PCR call before the men came,” he said.

Velocity owner Abhishek Tiwari rejected allegations of a molestation bid on the premises of his pub. He said there was a drunken brawl.

“There was no incident of molestation inside the pub. It was a fight that took place between two parties at the bar counter. The fight started over a very trivial issue. I was told by my staff that one of the men at the bar counter mistakenly brushed past the male friend of the woman and his drink spilled. He took offence and the fight started.”

He said the two sides began arguing, later punched each other and the woman’s male friend made a PCR call.
