The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Monday arrested a court bailiff for allegedly accepting bribe from a lawyer. ACB sources said the bailiff, Mohan Pagare, 52, had sought bribe for issuing summons in a case.

Sources said when the lawyer, representing a case at the Kalyan magistrate court, enquired from the bailiff about the summons, the latter demanded a bribe of Rs 3,500. The matter was not proceeding since one of the parties involved was not appearing before the court, leading to delays.

The lawyer then approached Thane ACB officers, who laid a trap – the complainant told the bailiff he would pay him Rs 3,000 on Monday. “On Monday morning, ACB officers accompanied the lawyer to court and as soon as the bailiff accepted the money, he was caught red-handed and arrested,” said an officer.
