A young couple was found murdered in their home in Thane on Thursday morning after neighbours complained to police about a foul smell. The woman, police said, was several months pregnant. The deceased have been identified as Vijay Shankar Yadav (30) and Priya Yadav (22), both natives of Uttar Pradesh. The police said the couple had moved to Daighar village in Thane from UP six months ago in search of work. The police said it was an inter-faith marriage with the woman, who was originally known as Sufia Mansuri, converting after marriage. “The man had been working as a labourer in a private firm while the woman was a housewife,” said Abhishek Trimukhe, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone I.

A post-mortem was conducted by a panel of doctors on Friday, who found that Vijay’s throat had been slit and Priya stabbed multiple times in the stomach. “The bodies were decomposed and doctors have estimated that death took place roughly 48 hours prior to the discovery, but they are yet to conclude the exact time of death,” said Trimukhe.
