Gangster Davinder Singh Bambiha (25) who was killed by Bathinda police during an encounter was cremated in Moga’s Bambiha Kalan village Friday late.
The panchayat decided to cremate the body late night fearing protests by villagers who were alleging a ‘fake encounter’.

Attended by the entire village, the cremation ground was flooded with people who came to offer their condolences. The pyre was lit by Davinder’s paternal cousin and maternal uncle.

Speaking to The Sunday Express, Gurcharan Singh sarpanch of the village said, “Some villagers were unhappy and alleged that it was a fake encounter. He had no enmity with anyone. Some villagers wanted to protest against the police. However the panchayat was against it, so we stopped them.”
