Gangster Davinder Bambiha shot in encounter at Bathinda

Gangster Davinder Bambiha, wanted in 20 criminal cases, was shot dead in a police encounter at Gill Kalan village in Bathinda district.

GANGSTER DAVINDER Bambiha, 25, wanted in 20 criminal cases, including six cases of murder, was shot dead in a police encounter Friday morning at Gill Kalan village of Rampura Phull area in Bathinda district.

Bambiha’s accomplice Tari Dosanjh suffered a leg injury in the shootout, and is admitted in Civil Hospital, Bathinda.

According to police, the two were staying in a house of Tari’s relatives located in the paddy fields of the village.

IG Bathinda Range S K Asthana said, a police team, camping in the area since Thursday night following a tip-off, saw a car emerging out of the fields next morning around 7.30 am. “When the car was about to hit a road, our team reached there. Within no time, two youngsters from the car starting firing at our team. Then they started started running towards the paddy fields.”

Asthana said the two were warned against firing at police party but they did not pay heed. A police team led by SSP Swapan Sharma and other officers returned fired in which first Davinder fell. He was rushed to hospital where he died during treatment.

Police launched a hunt for Tari in the paddy fields where he was found near Burj Mansahia road. While Davinder took three bullets in his chest, Tari was hit on one of his legs.

Police recovered two pistols, one revolver, 85 live cartridges, one laptop, two mobile phones and one fake ID card.

Two days ago, Sangrur police arrested five persons who were part of Davinder shooter’s group.

Goru Bacha, another accomplice of Davinder, was also arrested recently from Amristar.

Davinder was involved in the Tarn Taran gangwar in August in which he was accused of murdering another gangster Dilbagh Singh Patti.

Tari, it is learnt, was visiting his maternal aunt and was staying at her house with Davinder. Tari’s mother had come here to meet him.

SSP Swapan Sharma said: “We have arrested six persons for giving shelter to them, and hiding information from police. These include Tari’s mother, aunt and other relatives.” Davinder’s body has been claimed by his family who live at Bambiha Bhai village in Moga.
