Tension prevailed in the Adarsh Mandi police station area of Shamli Friday evening after two communities clashed over collecting water from a handpump, leaving 10 injured.

Acting station officer of Adarsh Mandi police station, sub-inspector Ravindra Singh, said the incident occurred when one Neetu went to a handpump in another locality to collect water, when another resident Islam objected to Neetu using the handpump in that locality. This led to a heated argument, and people from both sides gathered there, added Singh.

Both groups attacked each other with sticks and stones, until police dispersed the crowd. Heavy police force was deployed, and cross FIRs have been lodged in this connection.
