Bizarre and weird food habits are not new to the world. Some are driven by fetishes, while others developed over time due to lifestyle choices. One such baffling diet recently came to the fore when it was reported that an 18-year-old girl from Karnataka has been eating only Parle-G biscuits all through her life.
The girl, identified as Ramawwa, eats six to seven packets daily. According to a report by the New Indian Express, both Ramawwa and her twin brother were fed the brand’s biscuits along with cow milk. Though her twin brother slowly adopted and eats other food, she has eaten nothing else since birth.
Daughter of mere peasants, who can neither afford the biscuits nor a treatment for her, reside in a small village in Gokak taluka in the state. According to the report, their mother did not breastfeed the kids and, instead, fed them biscuits and milk.
Ramawwa says she does not “feel like eating anything else”, adding that she does not know what will happen to her if the company stops manufacturing the product.
Her parents claim to have tried changing her food habits, but all in vain. They are also worried this might be a hurdle in getting her married.
Knowing Ramawwa’s unique food habit, the Lake View Hospital in the state has started a research. The hospital’s doctors tried to make her eat different foods too, but were unsuccessful. The doctor from the hospital says as she lacks nutrients, her appearance is that of a 12-13-year-old girl.
As soon as her unique food habit came to light, it also intrigued people to know, if one can survive entirely on biscuits. People tried to seek answers on social media. On social media, several question trails like ‘Is it ok to have one small packet of Parle G biscuits everyday?’ or ‘Is it bad to have Parle-G biscuits daily?’ have often tried to figure out the answer. According to an answer to one such question that was posted quite a while back on Quora, it is okay to have the biscuit every day. “A single pack of biscuit offers 450 calories. It is described as ‘full with taste, full with health’. Besides its universally likable taste, the biscuit is often carried by people suffering from Low BP, which act as energizers in emergencies. People suffering from Diabetes too carry them to increase the glucose level in their body,” said a user.
Though, the doctor researching Ramawwa’s condition said there is nothing wrong with her other than her physical appearance, he says it is possible she may develop other food habits in the future, but she needs to be psychologically open to it.
