When one thinks of things to do in Delhi, one of the Top 5 recommendations is usually ‘sample the Delhi street food’. It is, thus, quite fitting that the Capital plays host to the annual Nasvi National Street Food Festival (NSFF), which is now in its seventh edition.
Showcasing street food chefs from across the country and the world, visitors will have a buffet of over 300 items to sample from 26 states. Organised by the National Association of Street Vendors of India (Nasvi), the three-day festival will take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium from December 11 to December 13, 2015.
Promoting the depth and diversity of the India’s street food, NSFF 2015 headliners include the world-renowned Sanjeev Kapoor, and many other celebrity chefs. “The festival programme has been designed to both highlight the range of flavours that inspire India’s menus, drawn from the cuisines of the 26 states, as well as the traditions of Indian street cuisine and hospitality, an increasingly important element of our tourism offer,” said Arbind Singh, the national coordinator of the festival.
Among the participants from various states is Fatima, who sells fish pakoda and chicken in Kombai, Tamil Nadu. As parts of the state battle the massive destruction because of the execssive rain and floods, Fatima brings in flavours TN is famous for to the Delhi audience.
This event is also a great business opportunity for many. Take Om Prakash Deora from Jodhpur, for instance. A well-known name in the city, Deora says that his profit from the three day business in Delhi will be more than that of whole month. For others, previous years have opened business opportunities in their cities.
Singh also pointed out that this year’s edition will see the addition of Kashmir and Sikkim to the list of participants. He added that along with the food, street performers have also been invited to the event. This includes rustic attractions like the bioscope, roadside magic shows, singers, among others.
