Here is all the dope on Bastian, chefs Kelvin ‘One Street Over’ Cheung’s and Boo Kim’s seafood restaurant; burger fests in Mumbai and Delhi, and The White Owl’s mango-infused ale.

Kelvin Cheung’s Bastian is now open
Less than six months after the launch of the hip One Street Over, the peppy Kelvin Cheung has, along with chef Boo Kim, opened his much awaited seafood restaurant, Bastian. The new restaurant is located in Bandra, not too far from One Street Over, and, like the latter, it is a lot about interpretation.

Bastian — the name has been inspired by The Little Mermaid’s Sebastian, promises “hearty seafood” that will echo the Cheung’s and Kim’s exposures to different cultures, and “their commitment to Chinese and Korean cooking”. That translates into Whole market fish with confit ginger, scallion and garlic soy; Steamed Norwegian salmon with jalapeno black bean and citrus sauce; Crispy noodles with Wild Mushrooms, and, for vegetarians, dishes such as Charred Teriyaki Broccoli. Diners can choose their main ingredient among fish, and also decide the sauce it is cooked in. The bar at OSO serves exceptional drinks, and since the drinks menu has been conceptualised by the same person, in this case, Arijit Bose, one can expect good stuff from Bastian, too.

We can’t wait to have the Micheladas — ice-cold beer combined with house-made Sriracha — and the Hemingway-inspired To Catch a Marlin.

A Mango-infused beer? That sounds good
We love our mango cider, and chances are that we will also take to Alfie, The White Owl’s mango-infused ale. The Mumbai-based craft brewery mango ale is supposed to be nicely mango-ey, though not overwhelmingly so, and “has a moderate body”. The Alfie is priced higher than most of the Owl’s craft beers, and costs Rs 325. According to White Owl, the Alfie will be available until stocks last, which probably means that it will be around till the time it rains and the stream of mangoes that is currently inundating the city dries up.

Burgers galore in Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi
There is no beef burger in sight, but two burger fests in Mumbai and Delhi are rolling out pretty interesting stuff. The Hard Rock Cafe’s World Burger Tour starts tomorrow and the mahoosive array of burgers they are dishing out include the Enchilada burger, the Indian Chicken Tandoori burger and the Istanbul Chicken Kofta Burger, among others. The burger fest is on at their outlets in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. Meanwhile, The Claridges, in Delhi, wants you to come over and check out their Beer and Burger festival at Pickwicks. Their range of burgers include the Lebanese version stuffed with chickpea pattie, labneh and pickled veggies; the Jamaican burger with Jerk chicken and caramelized pineapple and the intimidatingly tasty Great Bacon Butty. The burgers should ideally be had with some nice American lager. The burger festival at the Claridges is on till mid-June.
