A still from Every Indian Teacher in the World A still from Every Indian Teacher in the World

They scared us with a hefty danda (stick), and ridiculed us when we got anda (zero in exams). The quintessential teacher of the 90’s had their own quirks. Being Indian’s latest spoof – Every Indian Teacher in the World has got it bang on as the protagonist of the video mouths hilarious lines like – ‘Congratulations, you have got an anda, go boil it and eat it’, ‘How much toilet you want to go, baba’, ‘You Mr Raju, become cock’, ‘Open the window, let the atmosphere come in’, and the most frequently said – ‘I want pin drop silence in the class’.

You’ll be reminded of at least one teacher in your school after watching this video.

Happy teacher’s day!

I would not call it a "Tribute" . However, let us not be hypocrite. Many of our teachers were like that.Teaching was a preferred career at some point of time, Although many teachers were poor, they were respected in the society. As societies changed where money was valued more than the knowledge, the plight of teachers also changed.Now-a-days, many jobs which are no way related to teaching like Census, election etc. are given to the teachers. They have become jack of many trades. This problem, coupled with presence of politically affiliated teachers unions and rampant corruption in Education Dept for appointment/posting of teachers have worsened the scenario. We just don't get good teachers. And the practice of No-English Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan in many Govt schools has made it sure that only under privileged students go to Govt schools.I recently visited my ME school after a gap of 30 years. The teachers told me that condition of schools have deteriorated like anything. Students don't study because they know they will be promoted in next cl, irrespective of their performances. The teachers cannot make them study because punishment is prohibited. A major portion of teachers' time is wasted in ensuring Mid-day meals. As the students are least bothered about studies, the teachers are highly demotivated. What the HRD ministry has ensured in last decades is - destroying the govt schools in rural areas. And some teachers have helped that unwittingly too, knowing that their performance does not matter as their (teachers) job is a "Permanent job".

Indian Express should be ashamed of itself to have put this under "tribute". If the Indian Express want to become a paper of record there has to be some sort of editorial control to make sure childish junk doesnt get on. Can you imagine something like this appearing on NYTimes under "tribute"?? For god sake...
