When Delhi-based designer Rahul Mishra bagged the International Woolmark Prize (IWP) at Milan Fashion Week in February, the Indian fashion world raised a toast. More celebrations were in order when a documentary by Anthony Lau Dream Weavers was screened in Mumbai a few days ago. The 25-minute film chronicles the journey of five designers, who were in the running for the prize.
“Anthony Lau is known for making films for fashion houses such as Chanel and Prada. To be a part of this experience was an honour,” said Mishra. For this film, Lau visited Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, New York, Hong Kong, Australia, London and Milan. Mishra said, “As a child, I wasn’t fascinated by clothes but enjoyed doing something artistic. I always enjoyed my grandma’s storytelling sessions, and today I realise that I don’t just sell clothes, but tell stories through my creations.”
The screening was attended by fashionistas such as Sonam Kapoor, Sona Mohapatra and Kalki Koechlin. Mishra plans to screen the film in Delhi soon.
