Excuse us while we use the word “badass” to describe designer Namrata Joshipura. That her clothes exude a sense of power and control is not news, and on Friday night her latest autumn-winter range did just that. Titled “Night Goddess”, the line was inspired by Greek goddess, Nyx, and Joshipura’s colours and silhouettes did complete justice to the theme.
An avid trekker, it’s the colours of the forest that reflect in Joshipura’s range, from tones of dusk to night time. There are jumpsuits, gowns, dresses, trench coats, culottes with coats in deep red, shades of blue, black, rust and gold. Models walked the ramp to intense techno tunes by Jitter, and some laser light, which gave us a glimpse into the mysterious and dark nature of the woods at night. Sassy is the best way to describe her line and philosophy; and we are hoping to see some of the satin cut-out gowns on the red carpet soon.
Sporty chic is in her DNA and there are glimpses of it in all her collections. This time, however, it was toned down to red and white stripes on the seams in a few pieces. Joshipura used silk georgette, shimmer tulle, faux fur and also the current favourite, neoprene. The encrusted flowers, the flairs and the longer dresses were reminiscent of the ’70s, as the Joshipura woman walked the runway that looked like a suspension bridge, built to enter the forbidden forest.
