Three student designers from the city – Pradnya Kamble, Priya Gaikwad and Komila Lalwani —are among the 17 finalists of London Fashion Week, a fashion event to be held from September 16 to 20 in London. The three students are from city-based institute INIFD.
Their collections, inspired by traditional Indian heritage and western silhouettes, cleared the first two rounds of selection. The finals will be held in the last week of July and those selected will showcase their designs at Fashion Scout during London Fashion Week.
Gaikwad said, “I am very excited as every new designer is. I think I can be myself and make a difference in the fashion industry. Pursuing the course hasn’t been easy for me as I had to leave my 8-month-old baby at home. However, my passion for designing has brought me here.”
Lalwani said that she started working on her designs in the last week of May. It took her two months for visualisation and one month for implementation.
Kamble said that her collection was inspired by mud houses in Rann Of Kutch. “Kutch is basically famous for its dome-shaped walls and conical roofs. So that’s what i inculcated into my designs. My silhouettes consist of shapes of mud houses with hard and soft texture. Bright-coloured rabari embroidery and leather cutwork are key components of my designs,” she added.
