Amusement parks and spas are two things that exist on different axes – while one is to relax and replenish your energy, another thrives on adrenaline rush. But in an amazing move, Japan has decided to merge both concepts in a way that only the Japanese can!
In the small town of Beppu, famous for its abundant hot springs, the mayor has decided to make the city a popular tourist hub with an unusual “spamusement park” project. To turn the project into reality the city Mayor Yasuhiro Nagano posted a promotional video, telling people that if it garnered one million views then they would on go building the park.
The video posted online on his Facebook page and Youtube on November 21 has has now gone viral. “Beppu City (Oita Prefecture, Japan) boasts the world’s highest yield of hot spring water in hot springs which people use. A decision was made to realize a new vision for the city, the ‘amusement onsen city initiative,’ and to spread the word widely throughout the nation and the world,” the statement said, focusing on the main objective of the project.
The strange video showing people wrapped in towels riding roller coaster, ferry wheels, carousel among others surpassed its target in three days. Following the unprecedented response the mayor thanking the public for its supported confirmed that the park will be turned into a reality soon.
The time line for the project is unclear, but the video showing adults and children enjoying various rides has certainly piqued the interest of many around the world.
