Kolkata: College student dies after speeding bus rams into auto

A 20-year-old college student died after the auto she was in, made a sudden turn to cross the road at Goribari, colliding with a speeding bus coming from the opposite direction.

A 20-year-old college student died on Friday after the auto she was in made a sudden turn to cross the road at Goribari, colliding with a speeding bus coming from the opposite direction. The auto driver is in critical condition and police are on the lookout for the absconding bus driver. Puja Paul (20), a first year student of Seth Anandram Jaipuria College, succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

Sources said the speeding L238 route bus rammed into the auto at around 6.30 am near Khanna Cinema Crossing, under Burtalla police station. The bus driver allegedly lost control when Paul’s auto suddenly crossed the road. Both Paul and the auto driver were thrown out due to the impact while four other commuters, who were in the backseat, also sustained injuries. Locals alleged that the L238 route has claimed several lives in the past as well.
