Police recovered 15 to 20 live bombs stacked in two bags and around 7 sharp weapons from a CPM party office in Benachitty market area of the steel town on Friday.

Following a tip-off, police conducted a raid of the office. The bombs were later defused. No one had been detained or arrested in connection with the incident so far, said police. CPM zonal secretary Pankaj Roy Sarkar ruled out the party’s involvement and said it was a conspiracy to defame the party. Prabhat Chatterjee, a local INTTUC leader, said the leftist party was trying to create fear in people’s minds.
