A police constable fired in the air besides aiming his gun at a group of people, including women, who allegedly assaulted him following an altercation outside a Punjab National Bank branch at Moharsa in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district on Saturday. The trouble reportedly began when constable Jasveer Singh allegedly abused two women for jumping queue outside the bank.

Senior Superintendent of Police Sonia Singh suspended the constable for dereliction of duty and ordered an inquiry. No FIR had been lodged until Saturday evening. The police have collected the CCTV footage at the bank to identify the people, who attacked the constable.

SHO Shailendra Kumar Tyagi said that Singh had intervened after people waiting outside the bank objected to the jumping of the line and asked the women to follow the queue. The constable allegedly abused the two women when they again attempted to move ahead.

“After a few minutes, the two women arrived at the bank accompanied by a group of eight and attacked the constable,’’ said Tyagi. Singh was reportedly beaten up with slippers and one man even tried to snatch his service rifle, forcing him to fire in air.
