Tamil Nadu cabinet moves resolution to recommend Bharat Ratna for Jayalalithaa

The cabinet passed several other resolutions that they adopted in their meeting. It moved a resolution to request the Central government to install a bronze statue inside the Parliament campus.

In their first meeting, after the demise of former Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa, the Tamil Nadu cabinet on Saturday passed a resolution to recommend to the Centre to confer Bharat Ratna on Jayalalithaa. The cabinet passed several other resolutions that they adopted in their meeting. It moved a resolution to request the Central government to install a bronze statue inside the Parliament campus, among others.

In the meeting the members of the cabinet decided to build a memorial for Jayalalithaa, the cost of which was calculated at Rs 15 crore. They also passed a resolution to rename ‘MGR memorial’ to ‘Bharat Ratna Dr MGR and Jayalalithaa memorial’.

New Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu O Panneerselvam, who assumed office following the death of J Jayalalithaa, held a cabinet meeting at the State Secretariat. Panneerselvam adopted a resolution to accord formal sanction for a suitably impressive memorial for Jayalalithaa.
