Harassed woman ends life in Bhagthala Khurd village of Faridkot district

According to Swaraj Singh, brother of the deceased, Simarjeet Singh aka Gabbar had been troubling her and had visited her house on December 3.

A 35-year-old woman from Bhagthala Khurd village of Faridkot district committed suicide on Monday after being allegedly harassed by a villager who has now been arrested.

According to Swaraj Singh, brother of the deceased, Simarjeet Singh aka Gabbar had been troubling her and had visited her house on December 3.

He alleged that police took no action when the village panchayat went to the SSP on December 3 seeking police intervention.

However, Faridkot SSP Darshan Singh Mann denied the charges.

“The village panchayat said they didn’t want any police action against the boy except a warning to the suspect. The next day, area SHO had visited the house of boy where he was not found. Later, the panchayat said the would call the boy and sort out the matter. On December 5, the woman committed suicide, though due action was being taken and even panchayat was with her.”
