HOME MINISTER Rajnath Singh on Wednesday reviewed the security situation in the country, especially in Jammu and Kashmir, at a meeting that was also attended by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and top security and intelligence officers.
During the hour-long meeting at Singh’s residence, top officials briefed the Home Minister and Defence Minister on the latest situation in Jammu and Kashmir, after the gunbattle between militants and security forces in Pampore ended on Wednesday. Singh and Parrikar also reviewed the situation along the Indo-Pak border and the Line of Control and measures taken to thwart infiltration attempts by terrorists from across the border, sources said.
Security officials also briefed the ministers on the overall security situation in the country, and on steps taken to maintain law and order during the festival season.
The home ministry had earlier issued two advisories to all states and union territories to maintain high levels of vigil and deploy additional forces at sensitive places to prevent any attempts at triggering communal tension during the festival season.
