BJP MP from Amritsar,Navjot Singh Sidhu, who has returned to his constituency after over eight months,on Thursday claimed that though a SAD-BJP government was ruling Punjab,he felt like an MP from the Opposition party.
Speaking to mediapersons in Amritsar,he said: “Several of my projects, including the sports complex,is still pending. How is it possible that all projects are completed within six months when Assembly elections are around the corner and now when Lok Sabha polls are approaching, there are no funds with the state government?”
“When the alliance government came into power,I had hoped that all pending development projects of Amritsar would be completed. But unfortunately, the state government have no money to Amritsar,as if because I was an Opposition MP,” he added.
Asked why the government was not sanctioning money for his projects,he said: “I fail to understand why I am being treated like this… I respect Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal like my father and had been with SAD during elections.”
He claimed that coalition dharma has forced him to remain silent but there some favoured MPs were receiving money from the state government. “Kotakapura and Mansa Nagar (both in Malwa belt) councils were given Rs 6 and Rs 4.20 crore respectively but no money was released for Amritsar. This was despite repeated reminders to the government. As many as Rs 135 crore was released to the Amritsar Improvement Trust some time ago,out of which, only Rs 30 crore was spent,” said Sidhu.
Speaking about the Amritsar Municipal Corporation,Sidhu said: “It has got nothing, not even machinery to clean roads and maintain traffic lights The poor condition of police stations, hospitals and government schools is not hidden from the people of Amritsar.”
Asked whether he was going to join the Congress,Sidhu said: “I am a party sepoy and my party asked me to contest elections, which I did. I have never asked for a ticket…” On whether he would contest elections from Amritsar, the cricketer-cum-politician remained evasive.
Asked why his own party leaders did not come to greet him when he reached Amritsar on Wednesday,Sidhu said: “Dushman ne roda mareya mainu peer jara nahin hoi, mitran ne phul marya meri ruh ambran tak roi (Enemies pelted stones at me but I didnt feel pain, but when my friends hit me with flowers,my soul weeps).”
